The Sioux Empire Kids Theatre will hold open auditions at 10 AM on August 2nd for approximately 75 children’s roles (ages 7-18). No preparation is necessary – but a smile is always welcome!

The upcoming season is will include The Miracle Worker, by William Gibson; The Odd Couple, by Neil Simon; and Annie, book by Thomas Meehan, Music by Charles Strouse, Lyrics by Martin Chamin is based on the Tribune Media Services comic strip “Little Orphan Annie”.

SECT will start work on the set at 12n on March 21st in the Orpheum Theatre. The full construction schedule is as follows:

• Sundays: 12n to 5 PM
• Monday-Friday: 5 PM to 9 PM
• Saturdays: 12n to 5 PM (except March 27, April 3 and April 10th)

Use the north doors of the Orpheum and go to the stage.

On April 13, Sioux Falls residents will go to the polls to vote for our next Mayor and City Council. SECT believes it is important to know where the candidates stand regarding support for the arts, and we want the candidates to hear from the arts community about issues of concern to us.

We hope you will help us make this a success and ensure the candidates understand the importance of a strong arts community in Sioux Falls. Please attend and spread the word among your friends and family about the forum – we want a big turnout! Finally, please send us questions you would like asked – it is only an hour-long forum, so we will probably only get to 5 questions, but we think it is a great opportunity to get the candidates on record about their vision for arts in our community.

The Orpheum Theatre Center in the Zable Classroom

Auditioners do not need to prepare a memorized reading, but having a practiced song to sing is advisable (with sheet music if it is not from The Sound of Music). An accompanist will be provided

Fifty years ago this season the final collaboration between Rodgers and Hammerstein was destined to become the world’s most beloved musical.  When a postulant named Maria proves too high-spirited for religious life, she is dispatched to serve as a governess for the seven children of a widowed naval captain.  Her growing rapport with the youngsters, coupled with her generosity of spirit, gradually captures the heart of the stern captain and the entire Von Trapp family in one of the most thrilling and inspirational true life stories ever put on stage.  Audience favorites include such timeless hits as: My Favorite Things, Do-Re-Mi, Sixteen Going on Seventeen, Edelweiss, the show-stopping Climb Ev’ry Mountain and, of course, the title song, The Sound of Music.
