Children’s Theater One-Week Events

Sioux Empire Kid’s Theatre is proud to announce free, one-week children’s productions this summer:

Auditions for “The Amazing Adventures of Robinson Crusoe” will be held on July 5th at 10 AM in the Orpheum Theater. There are roles for those students entering 1st grade through 12th grade. Approximately 60 local students will be cast to appear in the show. Students wishing to audition must arrive by the scheduled starting time and stay for the entire two-hour session. The first rehearsal begins about twenty minutes after the audition.

This is a group audition – no advance preparation is necessary – but a smile never hurts. Students should just be ready to come and have a good time!

Rehearsals will be conducted every day from ten to three in the Orpheum Theater. Although not all cast members will be needed at every session, those auditioning must have a clear schedule for the entire week and if selected, be able to attend ALL rehearsals required for their role. A detailed rehearsal schedule will be distributed at the conclusion of the audition. Cast members scheduled for the full rehearsal schedule will be asked to bring a sack lunch or snack. Free enrichment workshops will also be offered. Each workshop is age-appropriate and explores theater through educational activities.

Performances will be held on July 10th at 3 o’clock and at 5:30 PM. The students in the cast will be called for dress rehearsal before the performance that day. All those cast must be available for both scheduled performances.  Call 360-4800 with any questions.

Beauty and the Beast

AUDITIONS – 10am on August 2 * Orpheum Theater, 315 N Phillips

The Sioux Empire Kids Theatre will hold open auditions at 10 AM on August 2nd for approximately 75 children’s roles (ages 7-18). No preparation is necessary – but a smile is always welcome! Rehearsals will run from 10 to noon Monday, August 2, through Friday, August 6, for most roles. Major roles will have extended rehearsals until 3 PM. There will be two performances on August 2nd at 3 and 5:30, and all children cast must be available for both performances. Optional afternoon workshops will be offered Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The experience is FREE for the children. For more information call (605) 360-4800.

Admission price for the performances will be $8.

The touring companies will bring everything from costumes to scenery for these full-scale musical productions. These week-long residencies will being with an open group audition and culminates in two public performances. Students are cast on Monday and will rehearse throughout the week, learning lines, songs and choreography to perform as an ensemble in producing a full-length musical. The shows are original adaptations of children’s stories and fairytales- a twist on the classic stories that you know and love.
