SECT Insider Notes
June 2010 Issue of SECT Insider Notes
Hello!
In an effort to better share the many exciting things going on with the Sioux Empire Community Theatre (SECT) with all of you that volunteer and work so hard to ensure SECT’s success, I am going to send out some “Insider Notes” once a month with brief updates on developments or upcoming events. I hope you find this information helpful and would welcome any questions on any topics mentioned below – or regarding other topics of interest! Also, if you have information you would like included in a “Insider Notes,” send that information to me at info@mysect.org. Happy Reading! And THANK YOU for all you do to help SECT!
The Sound of Music – WOW!!!
Congratulations to everyone involved with making The Sound of Music such a smashing success! Over 6237 people saw the show – fantastic! – and the “buzz” about EVERYTHING was fantastic! Thank you to the cast, crew, front of house volunteers, set builders, EVERYONE who had a hand in making the show such an amazing close to our 2009-2010 season!
SECT in a Phillips Avenue Storefront?!?!
Many of you may know that we rent an office space on the second floor of the Orpheum from the City of Sioux Falls. Over the past few years, the Board has been interested in obtaining more visible and accessible space and that effort is close to paying off! The Board is currently reviewing a contract to rent a 1st floor office at the Orpheum with a large window in which we can put our logo and that will have direct street access to the street. We believe this office space is important to the future of SECT because it will increase our visibility to the community, help solidify our “home” at the Orpheum, and allow for more flexibility with box office hours and operations. We are excited, and I hope to report next month that it is a DONE DEAL!
KIDS Take Over the Orpheum!!!
I hope that you know that a year ago, we established the Sioux Empire Kids Theatre (SEKT) and began providing FREE programming for kids of our community. To date, over 300 kids have participated in our programs which have included week-long residencies and workshops. The next SEKT opportunity is a week-long residency with the Missoula Children’s Theatre from July 5-10 – kids are invited to audition and if cast, will put on a production of Robinson Crusoe at the Orpheum on Saturday, July 10! Any child not cast will be invited to participate in free workshops throughout the week, so there is something for everyone! Next, SEKT will be partnering with the Prairie Fire Children’s Theater out of Minnesota to put on Beauty and the Beast during a residence from August 2-7. For more information, go to our website www.mysect.org/sekt/ or call Leni at the office at 360-4800. Our kids programming is made possible by the United Way and sponsors like Sanford Children’s and Egger Steel.
Speaking of our website… have you checked it out lately? Thanks to Insight Marketing and Design for revamping our website and adding all kinds of great information. Visit often because we are adding information all of the time! Check it out: www.mysect.org THANK YOU, INSIGHT!
Help With Fund Development.
In late April, SECT was one of only three arts organizations in our community to be awarded a grant from the Sioux Falls Community Foundation to help us build capacity to ensure our long term growth and success. We are excited about this grant because it is going to allow us to work with a consultant to develop a long term Fund Development Plan to ensure we meet our financial goals – something we must do if we are going to continue to offer the high quality, live theater we do now and consider expanding programming. More to come on this in the future!
Season Tickets are On Sale!
We have a tremendous season for 2010-2011 – The Miracle Worker, The Odd Couple and Annie!
